Instruction - Tier 1: Screening
Core instruction is the comprehensive content that is provided through general education to all students. What is taught in the core is typically driven by content area standards and aligned with screening assessments. The goal for all schools is to have core instruction robust enough to ensure at least 80% of students are meeting target scores or benchmarks , and that from fall to spring to fall at least 95% of those students will maintain their achievement levels. There is no magical core curriculum or one shot solution out there to achieve this. If there was, we'd all be doing it. The key is paying attention to what student data says and then problem-solving those areas of relative weakness while maintaining what's working. By having a system of frequent checks (e.g., three times per year), the kids will tell you what will continue to work for them and what needs to change.
